Monochrome by Kuru Book
The Author
Jordi Coromina, better known as Kuru in the tattoo world, was born in Olot in 1991. Coming from a working-class background, hedevelopedanearlyinterestinfinearts. His grandfather was a painter, and he took classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking.
During his teenage years, he became involved in urban art, skateboarding, graffiti, and video games. All these influences shaped the cultural foundation that would later define his style.
He studied Fine Arts, but feeling disillusioned with the university environment, he enrolled at Escola Joso, a renowned drawing school, to continue his education.
He stumbled into the tattoo world almost by chance when he created an illustration for a friend. The tattoo artist who was supposed to do the work took an interest in him and introduced him to a world he would soon fall in love with, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to it for the next ten years.
The Book
It compiles seven years of work, prioritizing the visibility and understanding of the piece by giving it prominence through very clean page compositions.
This, along with the use of a simple color palette (gray, ochre, and white), results in a very elegant and modern presentation.
The content
Consists of more than 200 illustrations, as well as compositional diagrams with guiding lines, QR codes showing the final result of the work or part of the process, and reinterpreted drawings over the years. The author himself explains the reasons behind these changes to enhance the effectiveness of each illustration.
